Proceedings of the First International Workshop on ADVANCED ANALYTICS AND LEARNING ON TEMPORAL DATA

چکیده
In this talk I will summarize our experience in the last years on developing algorithms in the interplay between Physics and Statistical Inference to analyze Earth Observation satellite data. Some of them are currently adopted by ESA and EUMETSAT. I will pay attention to machine learning models that help to monitor land, oceans, and atmosphere through the estimation of climate and biophysical variables. In particular, I will focus on Gaussian Processes, which provide an adequate framework to design models with high prediction accuracy and able to cope with uncertainties, deal with heteroscedastic noise and particular time-structures, to encode physical knowledge about the problem, and to attain self-explanatory models. The theoretical developments will be guided by the challenging problems of estimating biophysical parameters at both local and global planetary scales. Proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Knowledge Discovery from Sensor Data, Paris, France, June 28, 2009
Climate modeling and analysis of climate change have largely been based on forward simulation with physical models. We propose here a data centric approach to climate study based solely on the actual observed data. This novel approach utilizes a variety of relevant statistical modeling and machine learning techniques such as spatial-temporal causal modeling and extreme value modeling, and sugge...
متن کاملQuestions as data: illuminating the potential of learning analytics through questioning an emergent field
In providing a meta-analysis of a series of workshop papers and questions arising on the emergent field of learning analytics, this paper contributes to the ongoing formation of a shared research agenda. The first ICCE Learning Analytics workshop in 2014 demonstrated the effectiveness of a focused questioning session for collecting relevant data beyond the content of the papers themselves. In D...

Learning is a complex, mostly invisible process that happens across spaces, occurring in the physical world but also increasingly in virtual worlds or web-based spaces. In order to explore what happens in such blended learning experience, there is a need for multiple data sources that bring evidence from these different spaces. The present proceedings bring together two workshops co-located at...
متن کاملA Reservoir Computing Approach for Human Gesture Recognition from Kinect Data
This paper describes a novel approach for human gesture recognition from motion data captured by a Kinect camera. The proposed method is based on encoding the temporal history of input data using bidirectional Echo State Networks, whereas the output is computed by means of a multi-layer perceptron with softmax. Results achieved at the time-series classification challenge organized within the 20...
متن کاملA Focus on Methodology in Learning Analytics: Building a Structurally Sound Bridge Discipline
The following paper gives an overview of the inaugural Methodologies in Learning Analytics Workshop at the International Learning Analytics & Knowledge Conference 2017 in Vancouver, Canada. The event discussed many topics but two key themes emerged, that of middle space, the space between learning and analytics in which methodologies reside and the importance of multivocality, the challenge of ...
